This is great. All religions are indeed totally equal. That's why you get as many Jainist suicide bombers as Islamic ones... No, wait...

The symbol is seen throughout history across the world for many different religions and creed, however when the Nazis bastardised it they used the right facing version. Not the left facing one in this piece.

What right does any religion have to stand above any other? By that they are all equal, because you belong to one does not make you a better or worse person than someone who belongs to another. You're just as capable of killing as you are of loving, and that is because of who you are not because of what your religion is.

I always have this feeling that it over shadows my written work, if that makes sense?

I'm glad you like it And I am truly happy to meet someone who epitomises what Christianity is supposed to be and not what it has become in most places. And in general just what religion as a whole should be. Too often is it used as a tool to damn the rest of the world, when it is meant to be a tool to help and give strength to those who need it most.

Thank you for you comment.

I've always wanted to learn more about taoism, it always appealed to me from what I know of it.

Yeah that makes sense. Then again, visual work tends to do that on DeviantArt.

Yeah, I am very damn saddened to see the bullshit that is often made by the fundamentalist Christians. It pains me even more when I get lumped with them. For living up to the "love one another" part (which incorporates a belief that God judges on character, not belief and another belief that atheists, gays and others of the commonly damned type will not go to Hell), I have often gotten terrible labels such as "traitor to the Christian faith" and "misleading deceiver". It can be saddening but yeah, I still go forward.

You are welcome.

Taoism is interesting and I am learning more of it. One of major reasons I also became a Taoist was because of my own perspective similar to the Yin-Yang and dualist truth of the Tao. Like so, as painful and saddening it is, fundamentalist activity like the damning and condemnation has to happen (good and bad coexisting and all). But I'd like to at least try to lessen the bad and raise the good a bit.

Yeah its beautiful, and its served as inspiration for almost all other imagery, majority of Christianity is based off it, if my memory serves lol.

But there are some totally startling marvels.

The norse ones I used are either the celtic knots, which cover both the norse and the celtic pantheons and belief's, but the main one is the Hammer of Thor with the twin ravens of Odin above it.

I'll try to be objective even though I disagree... but this struck me as a little contradictory. The positioning of the pentagram in the background seems to suggest that it encompasses all other religions, which would suggest something like "all religions are equal except mine which is superior." Which I'm guessing is not what you were going for ^^;

Off topic: Polytheistic religions never cause any problems? I strongly disagree with that statement. >.>; Are you telling me the Roman empire never committed any oppressive acts? Or that China and India have no history of violence?
Reply
:iconkael-thas-sunstrider:
Kael-Thas-Sunstrider Featured By Owner Mar 3, 2009  Hobbyist Writer
Well the Pentagram was sorta because of the five elements and I think the central icon of the Yin and Yang was because it encompasses peace in all things.

Well thing is, which religion does the Pentagram belong too? cause I see it as a symbol of fertility and of the elements of fire, earth, water, air, and Metal, though it sometimes has others in place of the 5th one depending on the diagram. And the elements do encompass all things, as does love and fertility because without the continuation of them life would slow to a halt.

Well what I said was the don't cause as many problems as Monotheistic, cause the Roman empire did spend alot of its time as a Monotheistic system, though it was also polytheistic at first. I won't deny that polytheistic religions cause just as many if not more problems at times, but it is the Monotheistic ones which are causing the problems at this current moment in history, and to be honest the level of problems caused now does rank a lot higher than many of the ones done so in the past.

The Roman empire didn't tolerate Christianity until the fourth century. Before that they were feeding monotheists to the lions. By the time they became officially Christian, the empire had pretty much collapsed.

I was referring to this: "Aye I wish they would see this kinda stuff, mind when ya think about it Polytheist religions NEVER really cause problems, but Monotheist religions are the reason why the worlds going to hell. lol."

Care to back up that statement? I don't think it's fair, either, to say that anything a person does wrong is because of their religion. There are cultural and personal factors as well. It wouldn't be right for me to blame China's poor human rights record on Buddhism, even though that's a very common religion in China.

In the past, polytheists were a majority. Now they aren't. Couldn't it just be that monotheists appear to cause more problems because there are more of them?

As for the statement that our problems now are worse than in the past... I don't know what to say other than I don't agree. What critera are you using to "rank" problems? There are issues we face today that we didn't five hundred years ago because the global population was a lot smaller, communication was slower, and there was less contact between cultures. That doesn't make people in the past morally superior to us.

this statement completely contradicts what you said before about the Roman Empire, China and India, in which you implicitly claimed that their respective polytheistic systems of belief were the cause of human suffering and oppression.

"In the past, polytheists were a majority. Now they aren't. Couldn't it just be that monotheists appear to cause more problems because there are more of them?"

I will concede that my opinion was not very well stated before. What I should have said was, "I don't agree with the idea that cultures who primarily follow polytheist religions never have any problems." (And perhaps I misunderstood the original poster's point...) I don't think that's even up for debate. What I'm disputing is the idea that monotheist cultures commit atrocities because of their religion while polytheist ones do it for other reasons. That's what I was getting at in my second post. Violence is a common denominator across all cultures, regardless of their religion or lack thereof.

Please do not lump together all followers of Abrahamic religions, a very diverse crowd with many different beliefs, and brand us as fanatic suicide bombers. That statement is as hateful and ignorant as the rhetoric of the radical-conservative religious groups--who most of us aren't particularly fond of either. Before you ask me to adjust my worldview, please try to understand it a little better.

Or it could be that monotheistic religions are more conducive to fanatical misinterpretation. Polytheistic systems are, by their very nature, self-balancing, in that a variety of deities, equal or otherwise, form a pantheon rather than one single anthropomorphic personification of human nature. in Scandinavia and ancient Rome, any one-faced fanaticism would be unable to exist. the Judeo-Christian and Islamic teachings, however, are said to each originate from a single source, and thus they promote the "i know the real word of God/Christ/Allah, come follow me and blow stuff up!" mentality.

take a long hard look at your argument, as well as your world view. i could sit here and spend hours picking the holes in both of them, but i have better things to do.

Other than those, I'm pretty sure I know what the others are.

To tell the truth I can't remember what the one at the top is either... I think it might just be Science in general... I'm hoping its not Scientology, cause why are others should be equal... Scientology is just a scam lol, the guy who invented it even said so :XD:

The ones either side are just general celtic symbols. The one with the birds on top is the Hammer of Thor, Mjöllnir, the birds are Odins Ravens, Hugin and Munin.

The Tri symbol I think has an older meaning, which is what I was going for... but I can't find it now grrr... and the goat thing is actually an Aborigine symbol I think ^^;

Hope that helps xD

The basic principle of the Tao mainly lol.
Balance in all things, both good and evil.

You can't look at a religion and see something pure and good, or pure and evil. It will always have a merging of the two within it. Such is human nature, we are not perfect and neither is anything we can create or comprehend. Only by accepting that can we understand more about ourselves..
